My first sewing room was a screened-in porch off our garage in Erie, Pennsylvania. I can very clearly remember sitting on the porch in my winter coat, hat, scarf, and gloves, sewing doll clothes on my mother’s hand-me-down tiny Singer sewing machine. I was ten years old and had three younger brothers — escape was sometimes necessary, no matter how cold it was out there. I learned to quilt at 18 and never stopped. I love, love, love hand applique and have been designing my own patterns for the last 28 years.
