This striking quilt is made with a layer cake! You usually don’t expect such organized results from pre-cut fabrics. These lovey tulip (or star) like blocks are great fun to make. It starts with a little sorting, some planning, next comes cutting and sewing. Almost like baking! The blocks go together quickly, the results are yummy! Of course, you can pull fabrics from your stash too.
One Layer Cake (42 – 10” squares), background and sashing, will make 9 blocks. You’ll have a 62” square quilt. Add some coordinating fabrics, piece 3 more blocks and borders and you will have the 78” x 98”, full size quilt shown. You could keep going – add 4 more blocks and you’ll have a queen size. This design works well for many quilting styles, your fabric choices can make this look quite traditional or very contemporary. So, step into my kitchen/classroom and cook up a layer cake beauty of your own!
