C8 Star Circle - A Jelly Roll Quilt

  • Instructor: Clara Daniels
  • Skill Level: Confident Beginner-Intermediate
  • Description:  I’ve always loved Lone Star quilts but have been intimidated by all the bias edges and Y-seams. This pattern makes smaller 2 row stars that circle around the quilt. This design gives you lots of blank space to show off your (or your long-armer’s) quilting talents. You get maximum movement with a lot less bias and no Y-seams. Even better, you get to use one of the Jelly Roll’s you’ve been hoarding.
  • You will learn how to make the simplest of Lone Star’s without any special rulers. You use the 45° line on the square you probably already have. This quilt makes up surprisingly quickly and it’s fun to see your stars come together. I will show you several layout options in class. The quilt pictured is 84” square. So, pull a Jelly Roll off of your shelf or cut 2 ½” strips from your stash and make this impressive beauty!
  • Techniques covered  Precision piecing, working with bias, working with a jelly roll

C9 Quilting with Motifs

  • Instructor: Teresa Fusco
  • Skill Level: All

This is a creative class in which you will be the designer. As you pick through your fabrics in preparation for class, you will be training your eyes to see your fabrics with new purpose. Look for circles and florals, anything that draws your eye in.
  • To get a head start for class, come with your background pieced. On the quilt Bugs View, I started at the bottom - dirt , and worked my way up to sky. I combined the two methods I love, piecing and appliqué to make my quilt, using the motifs! You can use a solid background or a pieced background, (a hand dye would work well) you will leave class with your design finished in Motifs.
  • I suggest having your backing pieced and bordered before class. If you are not bordering, please put a 2” border on your background basting stitch so that you may easily remove.
