    • Description: I have been sewing a series of small colorful beaded and embroidered art quilts, inspired by the original artwork of Regina Valluzzi of Boston. A few years back, she sent me a yard of her 8" watercolors printed onto fabric through a company by the name of Spoonflower.com. They sat for quite a long time because I could never come up with something to do them justice, thinking I had to put all of the pieces into one quilt. Three years ago, I needed a small project to take with me on the go. I grabbed one of these 8" pieces and the rest is history! These pieces were perfect! In this class you will learn how to read the artwork through buttons, beads and threads. I like using Sulky Silver threads for the quilting. This class is a machine and hand sewing class. • Description:  In this class, we will all be using Critter Pattern Works’ Birds in Wool pattern to make two Felted Applique blocks. You will learn how felting (pushing colored wool fibers into a wool applique sitting on top a wool background) is different from working with machine applique in cotton. Your appliques will become more realistic and more dimensional. You will not need a sewing machine because any details or block seams will be hand embroidered. The best part is that you can do needle felting anywhere you happen to be so your project will get done when you would otherwise be waiting for your kids, or the doctor, or watching TV.
    • Techniques covered  Needle Felted Applique allows you to mix colors in your hands to create smooth color changes so the animals are more realistic, and you can make the applique more like a bas-relief while you are poking the wool fibers into the appliques. Learn to make 3-D details that dangle off the surface of the quilt top (wings, mushroom caps and leaves). Hand embroidery will help define the beaks and feathers as well as the mushrooms. This is a class for exploring your creativity.
