Mid-Appalachian Quilters, Inc. (MAQ) has been hosting an annual quilting seminar each July since 1987. We offer a variety of classes presented by some of the best teachers in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Members of MAQ reside primarily in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia, but some return every year from more distant states, visiting with cherished friends and learning new quilting techniques.

Meet The Board for 2010-2011

President, Toni Carringer

Toni lives in Woodbine, Maryland and has an active role as Secretary in the Four County Quilt Guild in Mt. Airy.  Toni has been quilting for over 15+ years and works and instructs at Patches Quilting & Sewing in Mt. Airy.  Toni is a mother of 4 and married over 22 years to a retired Air Force man.  Toni enjoys doing commission work and spending an entire day at her sewing machine or computer.  Toni's favorite colors are purple and lime and her favorite quilt block is a Churn Dash.

Vice President, Betty Isemann

Betty lives in Mount Airy, Maryland. She has been quilting since 1982. Not knowing any better, she pieced and quilted her first queen-sized quilt on her Featherweight. Her day job is working as a sales person for Frederick Fiber Optics selling fiber optics products. She also runs her own longarmer business, Quilted for You! She is active in two local guilds, Four County Quilters and Friendship Star Quilters as well as Vice President for MAPMQG, a professional longarm guild. Besides quilting, Betty enjoys crocheting and walking, but not at the same time! She participates in and raises money for both Avon 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer and Susan G Komen 3-Day for the Cure. Her favorite color is green and her favorite quilt block is whatever block she is working on that day!

Secretary, Karen Fleming-Michael

Karen lives in Poplar Springs, Maryland, and is a member of the Four County Quilt Guild. A quilter for just 7 years, she heads to Iowa for a week every year to quilt with five ladies she met at her first-ever quilt camp. In addition to quilting, Karen loves running 1/2 marathons and spends a lot of her free time training for her next race. Yellow must be her favorite color because most of the rooms in her house are in one shade or another of it, but she hasn't yet made a quilt in that color. Her favorite quilt block: Ohio Star because her husband is a graduate of Ohio State University.

Treasurer, Louise Harris

Louise Harris lives in Middletown Maryland where she raised two children with her husband Michael. Her quilting story goes back to her childhood when she learned how to sew from her mother and grandmothers. Although she made her first quilt during the quilting resurgence of 1975 she didn’t quilt again for 25 years until her husband mistakenly bought her a Bernina Quilting Edition sewing machine for her birthday and three years after that her daughter needed a bed cover for college. Louise taught herself to quilt from books, but soon realized it was more fun to learn from other quilters and enthusiastically joined Four County Quilt Guild in Mt Airy.
